Niv Bible Study If You Must

Many find the Old Kings James Version of the Bible hard to understand because of the old style english being used and as such have turned to Bible's such as the NIV version for their study.

However in my opinion while the NIV can be a handy tool to compare different verse translations and from time to time it does help to shed some light on various scriptures written in the old english overall it leaves a lot to be desired and departs greatly from the original and in my opinion truer King James translation.

That's not to say the KIng James isn't without mistakes but it is far superior to all of the newer translations which do remit on numerous occasions some very important wording.

So with that in mind before embarking on a Bible study using the NIV version please have a copy of the King James as well to compare with.

The NIV version is very popular and many use it solely while others use it as another reference guide to enhamce the Bible they already have.

There are many NIV bible study helps now available and can be found in most popular Christian book Zondervan who is the publisher of the NIV Bible and now owned by none other then media magnate Rupert Murdoch.

It is amazing how many books spring up around another book and the NIV Bible is no exception with products like the NIV Bible Study Companion, NIV Bible Lesson Series and plenty of others.

While I am personally opposed to the NIV version as a stand alone study tool simple because I believe it is missing some vital parts to the story and has slight slants on things that differ from the King James translation I do see some advantages with it.

I had a friend who once worked in the jail system as an educational officer. His arguement was that most of the inmates came from poorly educated backgrounds and found the Old English of the King James too hard to grasp. He was a huge fan of the NIV Bible because it was easier for those people to understand.

So if you are looking for NIV Bible study helps by all means go to one of the major Christian book stores on or offline and you will find plenty of tools to help you study with the NIV version
